Minister of Health Adrian Dix was in Terrace today to announce that one of BC’s top health projects has completed its business planning phase.
Minister Dix also took the time to announce a replacement Seven Sisters Mental Health facility on the new Mills lot, featuring 25 beds.
Construction tenders for that facility are already out, with an expected opening date of next fall.
In addition, the Minister also announced that the new Mills Memorial Hospital will be more than double the size, with 78 private beds.
20 of those beds will be dedicated to adult inpatient psychiatric care.
Improvements are also on the way for the trauma and inpatient surgery, with the new hospital set to serve as the Northwest’s level 3 trauma centre.
This means patients in need of urgent care and immediate assessments will be able to receive them at the Hospital.
Overall, the new Mills is expected to open up in 2024, and cost 447.5 million dollars, with 110.2 million coming from the Northwest Regional Hospital District.
The final budgeted amount is slightly lower than what was initially planned for.
In total, the Hospital District is investing 113.7 million dollars in the project, including construction and planning costs.
