While the Smithers Recycling Depot continues to recover from a fire, recycled goods will be temporarily redirected to the landfill.
During their last regular meeting, Town Council was informed that the Depot would be forced to suspend its bi-weekly curbside service.
The need to suspend service is due primarily to the loss of the depot’s recycling baler.
Mayor Taylor Bachrach has inquired about renting a temporary replacement, a request which Recycle BC is working to fulfill.
In the meantime, Council opted to, rather than cut off the service completely, redirect goods left on the curbside to the landfill.
If you wish to keep your recyclables out of the landfill, you can always bring them to the Smithers/ Telkwa Transfer Station directly.
The cause of the May 9th fire which devastated the facility is still unknown.
