A Haida student is the winner of UBC’s first Lieutenant Governor Medal award.
Chelsea Gladstone (Xanjuu Gwang) is a fourth-year arts student, a Wesbrook scholar, and Premier’s Undergraduate Scholarship recipient. She is graduating with a double major in First Nations Indigenous Studies and Gender, Race, Sexuality, and Social Justice.
Gladstone is the facilitator for the UBC Indigenous Leadership Collective and is being recognized for her work in supporting and empowering Indigenous students on campus.
“This award allows me to show other Indigenous students on campus that you can study at UBC with your Indigenous world-view, and do things that align with your Indigenous perspective, and be recognized,” says Gladstone.
After graduation, she plans to continue her advocacy work as a lawyer and hopes to begin studying at the Peter A. Allard School of Law in 2020.
