The Nisga’a Lisims Government has announced an open burning ban to limit the wildfire risk.
As of 4 p.m. May 28, all category 2 and higher burns will be prohibited within Nisga’a lands until further notice.
The ban does not include campfires of a half metre wide by a half metre tall and smaller or cooking stoves that use gas, propane, or briquettes.
The NLG says the prohibition does not apply to areas regulated by village government burning bylaws.
