After years of working out of leased space, the Terrace Search and Rescue Society are now closer than ever to establishing a permanent home.
City Council accepted a staff recommendation yesterday to allow modifications and varriances to a lot previously purchased by the Society.
Located at 4455 Greig Avenue, the building would serve as a storage facility, training facility, and as office space.
It could also serve as a post-disaster emergency operations centre if needed.
In order to accomodate the location, modifications will need to be made to the roads and sidewalks in the area.
Both Greig Avenue and Clinton Street will be widened in the area, with a 3 m sidewalk, curb, and gutter added.
Council accepted staff recommendations to approve the work, as well as a variance to allow modifications to the building itself.
