Coastal First Nations is calling on the Senate to pass the federal government’s North Coast tanker ban.
CFN President Chief Marilyn Slett of the Heiltsuk issued an open letter this week reminding senators that Bill C-48 was popularly endorsed when the Liberal Party won the 2015 election.
Slett notes the un-elected senators can’t be voted out of office should they decide to overturn the bill.
Coastal First Nations says it wants the senate to follow the wishes of voters and pass the tanker ban legislation, noting that failing to do so would leave people wondering whether election promises mean anything at all.
