An influx in provincial funding will help local First Nations across BC have more say in how their children are educated.
Three million dollars in grant funding will go towards helping Bands solidify Local Education Agreements with their respective school boards.
Local Education Agreements help First Nations to: formalize involvement in education decisions, address barriers to Indigenous student success, strengthen culture and language programming, and ensure each student has the classroom supports needed.
Each agreement is negotiated locally between the Nation and their school districts to better fit with each community.
Currently there are 146 First Nations communities in BC with either expiring or non-existent agreements.
