Drivers heading west of Terrace, towards Prince Rupert early this afternoon should expect some traffic delays.
Those delays will be due to an information blockade set up by members of both the Lax Kw’alaams and Metlakatla First Nations.
Both bands are members of the Nine Tribes of the Coast Tsimshian and are holding the blockade in an effort to defend their traditional lands.
Those present for the blockade will be challenging the province’s proposal to sell their Nasoga Gulf Lands to the Nisga’a Nation.
In their release, the bands say the land in question has high potential to support LNG.
They also say that they would be willing to consider the idea of LNG on their lands, only if the development is done responsibly.
Members will be holding the information-only blockade near the Kasiks Bridge on Highway 16 until 1:00 this afternoon.
