RCMP and local search and rescue teams are scouring the Kitimat River area after a fisherman fell in the water Saturday night.
Mounties say the 21 year-old man was fishing about 8 km north of Kitimat at the end of an area known as Powerline Road when he was swept away.
An RCMP dive team, helicopter, and swift water rescue teams have been combing the area for the man.
He was last seen wearing brown chest waders, green boots, a white hat, white t-shirt, and a camouflage hoody.
He’s described as 6’9″ tall, 220 lbs, with brown hair and a beard.
Kitimat RCMP say that rain combined with melting mountain snowpack has cause rising river levels, deeper water, and stronger currents.
Mounties are advising those fishing in area rivers to wear personal flotation devices..
Police are asking for the publics help in allowing emergency crews to work safely and for anyone with any information to contact Kitimat RCMP at 250-632-7111.
