A freshly signed Memorandum of Understanding will solidify plans to bring a new Coast Guard station to Hartley Bay.
Under the agreement, made between the Gitga’at Nation and Canadian Coast Guard, the two will work together to plan the future of the project.
Offering a strategic advantage to Search and Recue workers, a Hartley Bay location would result in an increase in capacity to respond to emergencies.
According to the Coast Guard, the location complements existing Gitga’at emergency response programs.
Once completed, the station will host a complement of well-trained crews 24/7.
The MoU was made possible thanks to the federal government’s Oceans Protection Plan.
