A Smithers man will serve just over 2 years in jail after pleading guilty to charges stemming from a fatal crash last summer.
On June 9th of last year, 23 year-old Ashton Michael Lewis failed to navigate a turn and flipped his car.
22 year-old Prince George resident Taylor Blomquist was not wearing his seat belt and died as a result of the crash.
A third passenger, who was not injured, then reportedly helped Lewis hide empty beer cans which had been in the car, before fleeing the scene.
Police were able to track him down and test him at nearly triple the legal blood alcohol limit.
He was also prohibited from driving at the time due to a prior speeding conviction.
Lewis was sentenced to 2 years and a day in jail after pleading guilty and apologising to Bloomquist’s family.
