Temperatures and extreme weather risks in the Bulkley Valley aren’t expected to let up any time soon.
According to predictions from climatologists with the Ministry of Forests and Lands, temperatures could go up by as much 6 degrees over the next 80 years.
While that doesn’t seem like much, average temperatures only increased by 1.6 degrees between 1942 and 2018.
Even average projections show a 3 degree increase by 2100.
Forecasters are only able to pin 13 percent of the temperature increase between 1948 and 2012 on natural causes.
In addition to increasing temperatures, climatologists are also expectin and increase in extreme weather events such as forest fires, and extreme cold snaps.
