Thanks to the efforts of Tamatik Status of Women outreach workers, updates are coming for Kitimat’s Sexual Assault Protocol.
A vital part of co-ordinating response between agencies following a sexual assault, the Protocol guides the actions of counsellers, police, emergency room personnel, and more.
According to TSW, updating the Protocol ahead of the upcoming population boom has been a top priority.
Kitimat’s Protocol was first put in place in 2011 and last updated in 2013.
Fresh updates to the Protocol will help to build a relationship between the various agencies involved in response.
It will also seek to upgrade support, reduce wait times for victims, and make information on the services available more readily available.
Funding from the province’s Civil Forfeiture Crime Prevention and Remediation Grant Program.
