A new progress audit has found that, while improvements have been made, there is still a long way to go to boost Indigenous student success in BC.
In 2015, the Office of the Auditor General released a report which found sizeable gaps between the success of Indigenous and non-Indigenous high school students.
That original report made 12 recommendations after finding the graduation rate to be 24 percent lower among Indigenous students.
Today, the Office released a progress report, which pins that number at an improved 16 percent gap.
According to the Office, the improvement is the result of focused efforts by the Ministry of Education, such as the release of a new curriculum which encompasses Indigenous culture and history.
They have also implemented programs and new positions to identify barriers and help foster student success.
But the Office says the Ministry still has a lot of work ahead, including developing an Indigenous Education Strategy.
