A new professional standard for educators in BC will feature, for the first time, a commitment to reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.
Under the BC Teachers’ Council’s new standards, teachers will be required to commit to truth, reconciliation, and healing.
Educators will be required to respect and value the history of Indigenous peoples, and to foster a deeper understanding of Indigenous culture and traditions.
They will also be required to integrate Indigenous worldviews in to the classroom.
Minister of Education Rob Flemming says that a lasting commitment to reconciliation is key to classroom success for all students.
