Construction on Walnut Park Elementary School’s new building has been delayed until next summer.
Located in Smithers, the current building is more than 50 years old.
Intent to build a new facility for the school originally came out last May when the province announced 27.6 million dollars in project funding.
In total, construction costs for the new building were estimated at 28.5 million, with the School District on the line for the difference.
Construction was expected to begin this summer, but delays and cost issues have forced the project back a year.
The School District hopes that the extra time will allow them to further hash out some spacing options at the new facility.
