Bill C-48, better known as the Oil Tanker Moratorium Act was passed in to law last not, but not without some Senate issued changes.
But Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Nathan Cullen, who first presented the bill in 2014, says he’s not worried about the amendments.
Bill C-48 legally affirms an unspoken moratorium which has been in place on BC’s northcoast for decades.
With the Bill passing in to law, all oil tankers carrying more than 12,500 tonnes of crude oil will be barred from travelling BC’s north coast.
Conservative MPs have already come out to lambast the Bill, with some calling it devastating for Canada’s oil and gas industries.
But Cullen says that effected parties have rarely ever proposed lifting the unspoken moratorium anyway.
