More than one thousand Indigenous language experts and champions from around the world are gathered in Victoria today for a three day conference.
Co-hosted by the First Peoples’ Cultural Foundation, the First Peoples’ Cultural Council, and the Canadian Commission for UNESCO, the event aims to highlight language revitalization efforts underway in BC.
In honour of the UN’s International Year of Indigenous Languages, attendees will make the trip from more than 20 different countries.
Over the course of the event, they will participate in more than 55 presentations and workshops.
Notable speakers at the conference include: Minister of Crown- Indigenous Relations Carolyn Bennett, and Assembly of First Nations National Chief Perry Bellegarde, among many others.
