Direct flights between the Northwest and Calgary will be touching down once again this fall.
Air Canada has announced that it will launch daily non-stop flights year-round between Calgary and Terrace-Kitimat beginning October 28, 2019.
“We are very pleased to add a new route linking Northern BC with our Calgary hub this fall in response to economic growth in the Skeena Valley area,” said Mark Galardo, Vice President, Network Planning at Air Canada in a news release.
The airline says the route will be serviced by the 78-seat Bombardier Q-400 aircraft.
The flight is scheduled to leave Calgary at 11:00 a.m. and depart Terrace on the return at 11:55 a.m.
“The Airport Society is thrilled to have another route added to our business schedule. Air Canada has been a valued partner in helping us create the true regional airport. We look forward to growing with them in our region,” said Terrace-Kitimat Airport Society President Gary MacCarthy in a news release.
It’s not the first time direct flights between the Northwest and Calgary have taken off. Both WestJet and Air Canada launched connection-free flights in 2015, but later cancelled the route.
WestJet also brought back the direct service for six months in 2018.
In addition to the direct flights, Air Canada says “significant development projects” in Terrace–Kitimat area will mean a boost in capacity on its Vancouver–Terrace route this winter with five flights daily.
