Forestry workers in Quesnel who suddenly find themselves without work will, despite rumours, have access to all the supports they have in the past, and then some.
Those were the thoughts of Quesnel Mayor Bob Simpson, as he released a statement addressing the public concerns today.
Simpson says the Tolko transition team process is well underway and has been provided with all of the resources made available during past mill closures.
Taking things further a step further, the Mayor says they are also striving to learn from those previous closures.
Most impacted workers will have access to retraining, job search assistance, family assistance programs, and other services through their personalized union and employer plans.
On top of those, Simpson says the City is also working with all levels of government to ease the loss on the community as a whole.
In closing, Simpson did ask the province for better access to resources, and a more flexible program delivery process.
