A last minute request for Terrace City Council to reconsider either the budget or scope of the Lakelse Avenue Boulevard Enhancement project was submitted by City staff today.
In their 2019 budget, the city allocated 200 thousand dollars towards the project.
As initially planned, the project would see replacement of grass strips and paver stones on Lakelse between Emerson and Eby, the installation of 18 garbage cans, 9 street trees, bike racks, and sidewalk repairs.
But when the project tender closed on June 27th, the city had received only one bid, pinning the project cost at roughly 440 thousand.
Progressive Ventures, who placed the bid, say that they can perform roughly 40 percent of the project work within the 200 thousand dollar budget.
As a result, staff are asking Council to either re-allocate funding from the Northern Capital and Planning Grant Reserve, or decrease the project scope.
