After initially being torn on the decision, Terrace City Councillors ultimately came together on a big funding decision last night.
Yesterday, Council received a last minute adjustment to their agenda, adding a funding consideration for the Lakelse Avenue Boulevard Enhancement Project.
A project tender recently closed for the project, with the only applicant estimating a cost of more than double the budgeted amount.
Through that project, a number of aesthetic improvements were slated for the popular street, as well as practical additions such as garbage cans and bike racks.
Under the budgeted 200 thousand, most of the aesthetic changes would be cut, with the full estimate hitting 440 thousand dollars.
Yesterday’s request asked Council to decide between cutting back the project’s scope by 60 percent, or tapping in to the newly established Northern Capital and Planning Grant.
Being that they have not yet met to discuss the Grant’s priorities, many Councillors were torn on the decision, but ultimately voted to tap in to the funding.
