If you drive an electric vehicle or are thinking about buying one, you’ll soon have more options to charge up in northern B.C.
The provincial government has announced that it wants to develop six new direct current (DC) fast charger sites, primarily along highways 16 and 97.
The DC fast chargers allow drivers to charge their vehicles in 30 minutes or less.
Sites in line for charging stations this summer include:
-Slim Creek rest area: Highway 16; 120 kilometres east of Prince George
-Boulder Creek rest area: Highway 16; 50 kilometres west of Hazelton
-Australian rest area: Highway 97; 36 kilometres south of Quesnel
-Kidd Creek rest area: Highway 3; 21 kilometres east of Creston
-100 Mile House Info Centre: Highway 97
-Mount Robson Visitor Centre: Highway 16
The province has announced the recent completion of 12 charging sites, but none were located in northern B.C.
British Columbia has about 20,000 electric vehicles on the road, but that’s expected to grow to 350,000 by 2030.
