The City of Terrace is planning a public forum to gather input on tent camps, homelessness, and social issues.
A committee of the whole meeting last Wednesday focused on what’s come to be known as “tent city”, a camp located across from Wal Mart near the Skeena River.
Bylaw enforcement been monitoring the camp since May due to complaints and the City says it expects that the property owner will have the site cleaned up within the next week or so.
With an increase in economic activity and population, the City says there are not enough provincial resources in place to deal with the demand for housing, mental health and addictions, and poverty support services.
Council passed a motion at its Monday meeting for staff to organize a social issues forum, but the format and date have been chosen yet.
The goal is to give resident a chance to express concerns and share ideas.
