Hazelton’s Upper Skeena Development Centre will share in money aimed at boosting local food production.
The province has announced over $275,000 to be shared between six groups to expand the B.C. Food Hub Network.
The goal of food hubs is to connect food producers and processors with shared technology, research and development, and specialized equipment to benefit local communities.
Agriculture minister Lana Popham says the hubs will create more demand for local food, help farmers, and keep farmland in production.
The funding will be used to develop feasibility studies and business plans to determine community potential to offer a regional food processing centre.
