The federal government is pumping $13.1 million into a northwest B.C. port.
The Stewart World Port will use the money to install bulk loading conveyor systems and power and control facilities.
The upgrades are expected to increase capacity at the facility and help move Canadian goods like bulk wood, minerals, and agricultural products more efficiently to international markets.
The federal government says the improvements will help shippers save time and money by moving goods directly from Northern British Columbia, Yukon, Alberta and Saskatchewan to overseas markets via the port instead of trucking or shipping by rail to other western marine port locations.
The project is expected to create about 275 jobs in the region during construction.
