Melius Energy says it has successfully transported bitumen from Edmonton to Prince Rupert.
These shipments are done in custom 20-foot shipping containers that are sent by rail and container ship.
This is the company’s first BitCrude transportation process demonstration proving the ability to move bitumen safely and efficiently.
The product is transported as a semi-solid which Melius says floats in both fresh and saltwater in custom designed shipping containers. The company says it’s not toxic to marine life and doesn’t cause polution to the water as well as non-flammable.
Melius continues to establish relationships with refineries in Asia and is working to provide a long term and stable supply of bitumen for products such as asphalt and low-sulphur diesel.
