Some Prince Rupert residents are under a Boil Water Notice.
The City says homes in the 1400 block to 900 block of 2nd Avenue West, Graham Avenue, Atlin Avenue, Moresby Avenue, Van Arsdol Street, Alpine Drive, and 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, and 17th streets are affected.
Communications Manager Veronika Stewart says the notice was issued after testing revealed higher levels of bacterial coliform.
Residents should boil their water for 2 to 3 minutes before using it for drinking, cooking, or brushing teeth.
Water for bathing and washing clothes is considered safe without boiling.
The City of Prince Rupert believes the cause of the increased bacteria is related to low flows, oversized piping in the area, as well as recent storm surges.
Crews will be flushing the water system and the City says it will contact residents as updates are available.
