Haida Gwaii Mounties are reminding drivers to obey school zone rules.
RCMP say they will be checking school zones to make sure drivers stick to the speed limit between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
“A speeding ticket in a school zone could net you a $253.00 fine not including driver penalty points” said
Cpl. Chris Kienzle, Operations NCO of the Masset RCMP. “No one will argue our children’s safety is
paramount and that no excuse absolves a driver from putting them in danger.”
Police will also be looking for drivers who don’t stop for school buses displaying red flashing lights for student drop-offs and pick-ups.
Mounties say they’ll have help enforcing that particular law, as School District 50 buses have onboard camera systems to help catch offenders.
The fine for motorists who don’t stop for buses is $368.00.
