City council will support expansion of the Terrace Restorative Justice Program.
The volunteer program focuses on diverting youth away from the criminal justice system and instead, has victims meet with offenders to reach a resolution.
Facilitator Barbara Bond told council the program eases pressure on the justice system and creates and reduces repeat offences.
Council voted to write a letter of support to help the program apply for grants to help with expansion.
The lone vote against the letter came form Councillor James Cordeiro, who said he didn’t feel the program would alter people’s behaviour and that it “lacked teeth”.
