A highway closure, two damaged police vehicles, and a foot pursuit through Ferry Island, ended with two people being arrested this morning.
Terrace RCMP responded to a report of a possibly impaired driver in a maroon Ford truck. Police located the truck shortly after on Highway 16, which ended up crashing into two police cruisers and a civilian vehicle before coming to a stop. No one was injured in the collision.
A man fled from the crashed truck and a foot pursuit proceeded onto Ferry Island. A youth was located and arrested in the truck. Highway 16 was closed between Walmart and the roundabout for one and a half hours while police investigated.
With the assistance of Conservation Authority, Terrace police officers and the Police Dog Services Unit managed to locate the suspect after a rigorous search.
A Hazelton-area man was arrested for numerous offences including assaulting a police officer with a weapon, possession of stolen property, flight from police, obstruction, drive while prohibited, dangerous driving, and possession of property obtained by crime exceeding $5,000. The youth was arrested for possession of stolen property as well.
The investigation is still going on and no further details will be released at this time.
