Last night at the Lester Centre, Beasley and Associates presented the Resign Rupert 2030 plan. Following the release of the plan the City of Prince Rupert shared a number of joint announcements with community partners.
These announcements include, establishment of a Vision Stewardship Council to oversee Redesign-related projects as well as an attraction and retention strategy. The final structure will be formally established with Redesign Rupert partners and local First Nations. As well as acquiring Lot 9 from CN by the City of Prince Rupert’s wholly owned subsidiary, Legacy Inc. With the intention to extend 3rd Ave. through the lot and open up the surrounding area for future waterfront development.
An announcement with Lax Kw’alaams committing to work together to build 60 units of housing with the City providing the land. A collaboration between the City and Gitxaala to make a historic investment into a new ferry landing and marina at the proposed “Rupert’s Landing” location. The City also plans to renew the Official Community Plan beginning in 2020 to bring land use related proposals to the public for input.
