Environment Canada says a winter chill is about to sweep across much of the province over the weekend.
Officials say temperatures will plummet to values not seen in years.
With strong north winds, wind chill values will reach between minus 30 and minus 40 through the central interior by Sunday morning
The weather office has issued a special weather statement for the Bulkley Valley and Lakes District, Cariboo Chilcotin, 100 Mile, and the Fraser Canyon.
It will be even colder in other northern communities.
Extreme cold warnings have been issued for a number of communities, including Dease Lake, Fort Nelson, Lower Post, and the Peace River region with wind chill values below minus 45.
