The Gitxsan Hereditary chiefs have extended their support to the Wet’suwet’en.
The Gitxsan plan to keep an eye on the RCMP to ensure that land issues are resolved peacefully and collaboratively.
The Chiefs are requesting that the government stop using taxpayer dollars on police enforcement to address Indigenous land claims.
RCMP put up a checkpoint along the forestry road accessing Wet’suwet’en earlier this week in hopes to mitigate safety concerns.
The Gitxsan Chiefs are urging both the Federal and Provincial governments to recognize that Indigenous land claims should not be met with police or military enforcement.
