More than 475 people in Indigenous communities throughout B.C. are gaining skills to succeed in high-opportunity trades careers, with six new two-year training programs.
Supported by the Industry Training Authority, the programs will address community priorities and opportunities. Courses will vary from introductory trades to construction and electrical training. ITA is providing $7.5 million across the province to support six Indigenous training programs.
Melanie Mark, Minister of advanced education announced that $1.2 million would be used for the Kitselas First Nation.
The Kitselas First Nation offers training and experience members need to work in long-term jobs. The training is broken up into 5 tiers which includes, holistic healing, life skills training, essential skills training, trades training and work experience. With the goal of graduates getting full time work as well as their Red Seal.
