Skeena-Bulkey Valley MP Taylor Bachrach raised the crisis facing wild salmon in British Columbia in Parliament today.
A recent study of Skeena River sockeye found that returning salmon have fallen by three quarters in the last century and the most recent summer was a particularly difficult one. Bachrach called on the government to take urgent action with a funding package for habitat restoration, climate adaptation and stock monitoring aimed at returning the salmon.
Terry Beech, Parliamentary Secretary for fisheries, oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard said that the government will be doing more going forward and that he looks forward to working with Bachrach.
