A process aimed at finding a solution to the dispute over the Coastal GasLink pipeline in Wet’suwet’en territory has failed.
B.C. Indigenous relations minister Scott Fraser issued a statement Tuesday night after the Wiggus Table with the Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs could not find a way forward.
“We and the Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs made a committed effort to find a peaceful resolution to the situation,” read the statement. “It was very clear from our discussions that all of us came together in good faith to try to find a way forward together.
“While we were not successful in finding a resolution to the current situation, we continue to remain open to dialogue with the Wet’suwet’en leadership on this issue.”
A statement from the Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs Tuesday says they remain committed to the Wiggus Development Process.
The Chiefs say Coastal GasLink “declined to see this discussion as resulting in progress” after two days of the seven-day process.
Coastal GasLink had agreed not to pursue enforcement of the injunction during the week-long discussions, but it is unclear what will happen next.
The Chiefs say enforcement of the injunction by RCMP is imminent.
