In an open letter from Coastal GasLink President David Pfeiffer says he is very disappointed with this situation.
At the beginning of the project Coastal GasLink talked with the various Indigenous communities to ensure that their traditions and values were respected and protected. CGL was also hoping to establish partnerships that would help benefit these various Indigenous communities.
Following the first blockade of the project Pfeiffer met with Unist’ot’en leadership who agreed on putting safety at the forefront. Pfeiffer also says he is disappointed that he was not able to meet with the Hereditary Chiefs. Pfeiffer was also disappointed with the Hereditary Chiefs as they attempted to have legal permits rescinded by the Provincial Government.
Moving forward CGL will continue to work on the pipeline following the construction schedule. They hope to find opportunities to speak with Hereditary Chiefs.
