Grand Chief Stewart Phillip, President of the Union of BC Indian Chiefs stated that they are in absolute outrage and a state of painful anguish as they witness Wet’suwet’en people having their Title and Rights brutally trampled on.
In a statement today Phillip says that this is in direct violation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Which is a bill that both the federal and provincial governments committed to uphold.
Judy Wilson, Secretary-Treasurer of the UBCIC stated that their prayers are with the Wet’suwet’en leadership and people.
The Union of B.C. Indian Chiefs encourages organizations, advocates and members of the public to participate in the solidarity actions that are planned.
