A blockade has been set up at the injunction by Bridge St. in Gitwangak.
Currently all traffic is being stopped, passenger traffic is being allowed to move through but all trucks and semi’s are being stopped. The members of the Gitwangak Nation are putting safety at the forefront of this all. Making sure that everything is being maintained safely and that everyone passing as well as the people maintaining the blockade are safe. This is in support and solidarity with the Wet’suwet’en. The blockade is allowing traffic control and traffic safety to continue their work through the streets.
A house member in Gitwangak tells us that late last night a CN train hit a semi truck on the west side of Gitwangak. The people at the blockade are interested in speaking with the supervisors at CN regarding clean up. The people of the Gitwangak Nation are also interested in performing a spiritual cleansing as this accident took place on their graveyard.
