Police have arrested some members of the Gitxsan Nation near New Hazelton.
RCMP moved in Monday night after Gitxsan members re-erected a blockade of the nearby CN rail line earlier in the day.
The blockade was put back up after police arrested 10 people and dismantled a rail blockade on the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory in eastern Ontario, increasing tensions in the dispute over the Coastal GasLink pipeline.
Supporters of the Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs also descended on the B.C. Legislature and blocked access along a road to the Port of Vancouver.
It’s not know how many Gitxsan members were arrested, but supporters have demanded their release and have shut down Highway 16 at New Hazelton.
Gitxsan and their supporters are drumming and singing as they call on police to release those arrested.
The transportation ministry says an assessment in progress, but a detour is not available around the site.
