In a press release from the office of the Wet’suwet’en today, the Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs have invited both Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Premier John Horgan to their territory to meet. At this time both have declined, as a first step the Hereditary Chiefs have agreed to meet with Ministers Bennett and Fraser from federal and provincial governments this Thursday and Friday.
This agreement comes from the agreement by the RCMP to stop foot patrols and their closing of their outpost. As well as Coastal GasLink ceasing work. These are all demonstrations of good faith that allow for breathing room in these upcoming discussions.
The Hereditary Chiefs are committed to keep the road free of obstructions for the passage of Wet’suwet’en people and their guests. They are also maintaining their commitment of peace and will pursue all avenues they have available to achieve a peaceful resolution.
