The City of Prince Rupert is taking measures to help reduce the potential impacts of Covid-19 in their community.
Under B.C.’s Emergency Program Act, when a state of emergency is called, it activates the City’s Emergency Plan and its Operations Centre. It gives key personnel greater capacity to access resources and respond efficiently to emergent circumstances.
The City is also working to proactively help citizens to understand the advice of the Provincial Health Officer. Medical professionals in the community have indicated in their recommendations that this is a responsible and appropriate measure to take. Any local orders made by health officials will to communicated through Prince Rupert’s communication channels prior to them taking effect.
A state of local emergency can only be called for seven days at a time, after which the orders will be reviewed.
