B.C. cabinet met this morning and approved a package and it is designed to give immediate protection to landlords and renters.
The British Columbia government is suspending evictions and offering a $500 monthly rebate to help renters and landlords.
It will be delivered through B.C. Housing. Premier John Horgan says, “if you can pay your rent you should pay your rent, this fund is there to help those people that are in genuine distress.” Horgan has also said that as long as the emergency order is in place here in B.C. it is suspending current, and future evictions until this crisis has passed. A rent freeze is also being introduced, Horgan has said that this is not the time to seek rental increases.
The B.C. government is also freezing student loans until September.
