People in Prince Rupert experiencing homelessness will now have a new place to go.
North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice has released a statement following the confirmation of Fisherman’s Hall as a new site for the relocation of the North Coast Transition Society’s Third Avenue homeless shelter.
“The new location at the Fisherman’s Hall will provide a place for those in our community experiencing homelessness during these difficult times to stay safe and warm while physically distancing. BC Housing has also secured an additional 20 hotel rooms that will provide more spaces for people experiencing homelessness to go to during the pandemic,” said MLA Jennifer Rice.
Mayor Lee Brain said in a Facebook post that “the new space at Fishermen’s Hall is large enough to accommodate more beds and provide appropriate distancing. Minor renovations are underway to ensure health and safety for clients and staff.”
Brain goes on to say that these sites are critical to helping prevent the spread of Covid-19.
