As the last of the snow melts and winter winds down construction season is starting in full force.
Construction crews are set to work on a $5.4-million project to build two steel bridges along Highway 16 on Haida Gwaii. The bridges will ensure that people from the communities of Port Clements and Tlell will be able to travel safely. The new Gold Creek Bridge will be a two-lane, 21-metre long bridge located 8 km southeast of Port Clements.
The other bridge, named Geikie Creek Bridge No 1 will be the same length and width as the other bridge and it will be located 3.5 km northwest of the Village of Tlell. Both bridges will be constructed of concrete and steel, replacing timber bridges that were at the end of their serviceable life.
Proper health and safety measures will be upheld as construction begins. Crews will be working to keep delays to a minimum during the construction.
