A report came out earlier in the week that an invasive green crab species was found in the Prince Rupert Harbour jurisdiction.
To date there have been no confirmed sightings of this invasive species in the Prince Rupert area, however many crabs in the area are green-coloured.
Fisheries and Oceans Canada is on alert for invasive European Green Crabs, instead of destroying them upon locating them you are asked to notify officials at AISPacific@dfo-mpo.gc.ca.
The European Green crab can be identified by, 5 pines to the outside of each eye, up to 10 cm across the carapace, wider at front than back of the carapace and green is not their distinguishing feature, rather a dark mottled green to orange.
