Youth looking to attend post-secondary but have aged out of government care will have a additional funding to help them pay for expenses.
Through the Youth Futures Education Fund there will be an $250,000 available. The average amount a student receives from this fund is roughly $1,300. Students who meet the eligibility requirements must be using the Provincial Tuition Waiver Program while studying at one of 25 public post-secondary institutions in B.C.
Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Training Melanie Mark says that students attending post-secondary often look to their parents for support but youth in care rarely have that option. The Youth Futures Education Fund can provide extra support and allow students to focus on their studies.
