A donation of personal protective equipment, coordinated by the Skeena Sawmill and the City of Terrace has been made.
City of Terrace Mayor, Carol Leclerc says she is pleased that the industry has stepped up to ensure that the community is safe.
Skeena Sawmill along with the City of Terrace worked together to arrange a large shipment of personal protective equipment to the community. Skeena Sawmills was able to work with a medical supply company in China with the support of their owner, Teddy Cui. Skeena Sawmill General Greg DeMille says the Sawmill was happy to donate PPE to the city.
All the shipping was organized with support of the Port of Prince Rupert and Quickload Logistics. The materials arrived in early May and have now completed testing by the Occupational Health and Safety division of BC’s Provincial Health Services Authority.
Phillip Maher one of the organizers behind this donation says it’s been a phenomenal effort by all the community with the Mayor leading the charge. He goes on to say that it has been a really enlightening experience. Testing established the appropriate uses for these materials and now will be distributed by the City to businesses that require it. The donations included, 2,000 pieces of disposable protective clothing, 4,300 protective N95 masks and 9,000 surgical masks.
