Finance Minister Carole James spoke today regarding the latest numbers by Statistics Canada regarding the June Labour Force Survey.
In June the number of employed people rose by 118,000 which is a 5.4 per cent increase. The portion of people that worked less than half their usual hours declined by 2.9 per cent to 14.6. B.C. also saw its unemployment rate drop to an even 13 per cent.
James says the data released data paints a picture of cautious optimism.
The job gains in May and June have brought back roughly 40% of the job loss. More than 600,000 British Columbians have received the Emergency Benefit for workers. James reminds everyone that a restart does not mean a full re-hire as businesses are practicing safe protocol. She goes on to say that the best way to fix our economy is by continuing to fight Covid-19.
There will be an update on B.C.’s finances.
